Well Timed Chowder

Yesterday before I went across the highway for a study of God's attributes, and the girls stayed behind to put up electric fence to keep Anna'a horse out of my pumpkin patch, I put together clam chowder in the crock pot. I used the crock pot because after the girls joined the last half of the study we headed into town via the feed store. We joined the older girls and their families for a swim and everyone mentioned that it was an odd day to make clam chowder. Well people have been known to eat clam chowder in the summer, but yes some can say it was odd.

But when we headed home (twenty miles south) we noticed thunder clouds building in the sky over where the Farm is located. Sure enough we were bombbarded by gynormous rain drops just before reaching home.

So I guess my chowder wasn't so ill timed after all eh?

so a rainstorm constitutes chowder weather? very interesting but sounds yummy whatever the weather. Living in air conditioned homes - we eat hot food even on hot days. Of course my preference would be a corn chowder with a little chicken and jalapeno to give it personality LOL - crock pots are mighty fine things. Don't over heat the kitchen and I don't worry so much about "did it turn that off before we left the house?" Any leftovers??

i'm sure my family would have loved to have homemade clam chowder! I'm the only one in the clan that doesn't like clams... in fact, the smell of clam chowder makes me gag!
Next time you make some, let me know. I'll send my crew your way... ha ha

I must confess, I've never owned a crock pot! Your chowder sounds delicious though and it sure is nice to have something ready to eat after a busy day!

Crockpots, make life easier on those hectic days. We love clam chowder here, homemade even more~so...
While we were stationed in Alaska, we went clam digging on the beach. Our family sure did enjoy those clams, along with fresh salmon, and a few halibut. We ate some sort of seafood every night as we camped our way back home from Veldez to Fairbanks.

Okay, missy...
I want a recipe.
I make clam chowder but I have to go to the store to get the clams. I would love to be able to drive to the coast as you do to get them.

That is well timed. I think of clam chowder on rainy days. Maybe if I make some it'll rain here :)

I love making clam chowder with fresh clams but I have to admit to a very unorthodox recipe which includes fresh sweet corn, so that means I usually wait until august.

I have been hungry for soup lately. It's been cold and rainy here. I would like some right now.

Wasn't that a strange thunder storm? We were talking on the phone to someone not 10 miles away who was in sunshine and blue skies and the sky was black with thunder , lightening, and solid sheets of rain coming down. I loved it, and we did not have to water the gardens!

Crock pots, I love them and use ours frequently....meat, seasonings, veggies, sometimes broth and water....I put them on slow and leave the house to work in the yard, gardens, what ever, and come in hours later to a wonderful meal! And the house smells so yummy.
